Tim Buckley – Handwritten and Signed Lyric from 1965 “No More”
An ultra rare Tim Buckley collectible—a circa 1965 “lead sheet” with Buckley’s handwritten and signed lyrics for his song “No More”, as recorded by his band, The Bohemians. This song was part of their original demo tape, recorded in November 1965 in an Anaheim studio. The Bohemians demo, including “No More”, was released in 2012 by Rhino Records as part of the deluxe reissue of Buckley’s 1967 debut album.
Tim Buckley’s longtime friend, lyricist and collaborator (and Bohemians drummer) Larry Beckett confirmed for us that the lyrics here were written by Buckley, who also wrote at the top the song title and “Words & Music by T.Buckley III”.
This song and a group of others by Buckley were found in a notebook in the estate of Buckley’s longtime manager, Herb Cohen. Beckett theorized this and the other lead sheets were written out for their publisher, Third Story Music, and that the musical notation here was not written by Buckley but by someone Third Story hired to transcribe the tape. But Buckley himself wrote all the words here.
Other than those found in the notebook, we know of no other Tim Buckley handwritten lyrics ever to surface. Even his autograph is extremely rare. A museum quality Tim Buckley collectible indeed. With Recordmecca’s lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
