Bob Dylan – 1963 Program From First Ever Solo Concert at Town Hall, NYC
An incredibly rare program for Bob Dylan’s first ever solo concert, at New York’s Town Hall, on April 12, 1963. Prior to this show, Dylan had only appeared as a headliner in small clubs and the 200 seat Carnegie Recital Hall (drawing fewer than 70 people.) A much more substantial crowd of 900 attended this show at New York’s prestigious Town Hall, which took place six weeks prior to the release of Dylan’s 2nd album, “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.”
Columbia Records recorded the show for a proposed live album, which was never released–but various tracks have surfaced over the years. The program marks the first appearance of Dylan’s poem, “My Life In A Stolen Moment,” reprinted many times in future years. The 4 page program measures 7″ x 10″ folded, and is in overall very good condition, with a flattened vertical crease down the middle, and small splits at the top and bottom of the fold. We know of fewer than 5 surviving copies of this extremely scarce program. A superb Dylan collectible from a very historic moment in his career.
