The Doors – Fully Signed Large Ticket From Their Second-Ever TV Appearance, on Shebang (Feb. 1967)

An impossibly rare autographed ticket for the second-ever television appearance by The Doors, on the local Los Angeles show Shebang.  This very large ticket (7 1/2” x 3 1/2”) is signed by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Robby Kreiger, each with their first name, as well as Shebang host Casey Kasem.

This extremely early set of Doors autographs was signed for an attendee during the filming on Feb. 25, 1967.  At this time, The Doors were a minimally successful local act.  Elektra Records had released their debut album just seven weeks earlier, and their first single, “Break on Through” (which they played on Shebang) had failed to connect with radio or the public, ultimately reaching only #126 in the charts.  Two months later, Elektra issued their second single, “Light My Fire”, changing the band’s fortunes forever.

Their schedule the day they appeared on Shebang illustrates just how hungry the band was for any exposure.  They began Feb. 25th by performing at the Griffith Park ‘Human Be-In’, then drove a short distance to the studios of local television KTLA to film their Shebang appearance (they lip-synched; you can see the clip here).  That evening they played a set at the Hollywood club Gazarri’s.

We acquired this directly from a fan who attended the filming and got the band’s autographs at the end of the show.  Included is his letter of authenticity, a letter of authenticity from music autograph expert Roger Epperson, an 8″ x 10″ outtake photo from The Doors’ first album photo session suitable for framing with the ticket, and Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.  A very early set of Doors autographs, and the only known example of a Shebang ticket.
