The Doors – RIAA Gold Record Award for ‘Weird Scenes Inside The Gold Mine’ Presented to Manager Danny Sugerman

An original RIAA Certified Gold Record Award for The Doors Weird Scenes Inside The Gold Mine, presented to longtime Doors associate and manager Danny Sugerman (1954-2005).

Weird Scenes, a compilation and the first Doors album to be issued after the death of Jim Morrison, was released in 1972 and certified gold September 15, 1980.  This brass plate on this ‘floater’ style award has an Elektra logo, and notes at the bottom “Certified by the Recording Industry Association of America.”

Danny Sugerman met and began working for The Doors at the remarkably young age of 13, first handling their fan mail and organizing their clippings and scrapbook, and later writing press releases.  He was close to Jim Morrison, and after Morrison’s death, became Ray Manzarek’s manager, and then manager of The Doors, overseeing their catalog releases and legacy.

Sugerman wrote several books about Jim Morrison and The Doors, including the bestselling Morrison biography No One Here Gets Out Alive (co-written with Jerry Hopkins), The Doors: The Illustrated History, and his Doors-heavy autobiography Wonderland Avenue. He was also a consultant to Oliver Stone for the film The Doors.

We acquired this award directly from Danny Sugerman’s widow, Fawn Hall, and her signed letter of authenticity is included, as is Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.

The unrestored award has the original red Elektra label, and is in very good condition, with some dings and light wear to the wood frame, and small to the backing paper.  17 1/4″ x 21 1/4″.

An extraordinary opportunity to obtain a genuine Doors record award with rock solid provenance.

[Note: In the past few years an abundance of fraudulent record awards have surfaced on Ebay and at auction houses; we strongly recommend avoiding any award that doesn’t come with provenance and a written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.]
