Acid Test – Grateful Dead – Whatever It Is/SF State Acid Test Handbill

An extremely rare Grateful Dead/Acid Test collectible exhibited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  This is an 8 1/2″ square handbill for “Whatever It Is”–the 3-day event at San Francisco State College in Sept/Oct 1966, featuring the Acid Test with Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, the Grateful Dead, Mimi Farina, The Only Alternative, The Committee, Wildflower, The Final Solution, the Bill Ham light show, the San Francisco Mime Troupe, Anonymous Artists of American, Demon Lover, the Straight Theatre, and more. This handbill was exhibited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland as part of the exhibition “Grateful Dead: The Long Strange Trip,” and comes with a copy of a letter noting this from the Hall of Fame’s Curatorial Director, Howard Kramer, and a letter of provenance from the original promoter of the event, who we acquired it from.  The handbill was designed and features handwriting by Stewart Brand, organizer of the Trips Festival and Whatever It Is, and is in perfect mint condition. We obtained this from the collection of the student promoter of “Whatever It Is” and it comes with his signed letter of authenticity. Very rare, with exceptional provenance.
