Billie Holiday – Spectacularly Signed “Strange Fruit” 78
A first pressing of Billie Holiday’s classic 78 RPM disc “Strange Fruit/Fine and Mellow” on the Commodore label, in a sleeve signed and inscribed to photographer and collector Nat Singerman. Holiday writes “For my friend always Nat Singerman, Billie Holiday” in fountain pen. The inscription and signature are very large, with Holiday’s name 6 1/2″ across.
Singerman was a photographer and jazz fan in Cleveland, who photographed many notable musicians when they appeared in local venues. His photographs were notable for being in color–something very unusual for jazz photography during the 1950’s. He also was a collector of jazz autographs (the New York Times wrote about him in 2013).
The disc is in near excellent condition, and the sleeve near mint. With Recordmecca’s lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
