Bob Dylan – Original 1966 UK Tour Poster
A “tour blank” poster for Bob Dylan’s legendary 1966 British concert tour (during which he was famously mocked as “Judas” for playing electric, backed by The Band.) This would have been posted by local promoters on walls and constructions sites, with information about the specific dates posted underneath or alongside (this was called “sniping,” usually done by crews in the middle of the night without permission, attaching the posters to walls with wheat paste.) This poster (with Daniel Kramer’s iconic photograph) closely resembles ones made for Dylan’s 1966 US tour (which sell for upwards of $15,000.) This poster was one of a small number obtained years ago from Ken Pitt, Dylan’s UK publicist (and David Bowie’s manager during the 1960’s.) It is printed on the thin stock (textured on the reverse) typically used for UK “wheatpaste” posters, and measures 13 1/2″ x 18 1/8.” In excellent condition, with some ultra minor handling; this will frame beautifully. Only the third we’ve seen; both have been in UK collections for many years.
