Bob Dylan – Handwritten 1961 Song Lyric

Bob Dylan's handwritten lyric to "Mary of the Wild Moor" from 1961. Dylan wrote the lyrics to this traditional song in one of his lyric notebooks in 1961 (the year he arrived in New York City.) On the reverse, in another hand, are the lyrics to the Roy Acuff song "Precious Jewel." Dylan performed "Mary of the Wild Moor" during 1961 in Greenwich Village, and returned to it during his 1980 West Coast tour, and in Michigan and London during 1981. Introducing it in San Francisco in 1980, Dylan said: 'Ask me about old songs and new songs–This is a real old song–this songs so old ah—this I say's about 200 years old–a song I used to sing before I wrote any songs–anyway it's one of those tragic, tragic love ballads.' "Mary of the Wild Moor" dates from the 1840's, and has been recorded by Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and many other artists. Included are two different bootleg albums that feature Dylan performing the song (one which includes the spoken introduction referenced above.) SOLD
