Bob Dylan – Joan Baez – 1965 Concert Handbill

A mint condition concert handbill for the Bob Dylan & Joan Baez 1965 February-March US Tour, with art by Eric Von Schmidt. This legendary and often reproduced item is one of the most scarce and sought-after rock handbills of all time. Folksinger/artist/Dylan friend Von Schmidt created this image carefully balancing the size, height and names of Baez & Dylan so neither would appear more prominent than the other–but evidently Dylan objected to the design, and the handbill and identical poster were only used for a few dates, and the rest were discarded. Its design is unusual for the time too, with most posters and handbills from the pre-psychedelic era being simple "boxing style" designs, with block type and perhaps a photograph. Like Dylan, this handbill was truly ahead of it's time. We obtained this from the estate of Dylan friend and early supporter Ralph J. Gleason, arguably the most important music critic of all time (and co-founder of Rolling Stone Magazine.) Gleason hosted Dylan's legendary 1965 San Francisco press conference. Measuring 5.5" x 9" the handbill is in mint condition. Unlike most existing copies, this is completely unfaded, with crisp fresh colors. We also have the identical and extremely rare Dylan/Baez concert poster, for $12,000.
