Bob Dylan – Manchester 1966 “Judas” Concert Ticket & Program
A concert ticket and tour program from Bob Dylan’s historic May 17, 1966 concert at the Manchester Free Trade Hall; the concert at which the legendary (and mis-identified) “Royal Albert Hall” bootleg was recorded (later released as The Bootleg Series, Vol. 4.) During this concert Dylan was famously heckled by a concertgoer who yelled out “Judas.” He had been booed by crowds all during this tour for playing amplified music (backed by The Band,) but this insult clearly stung–Dylan even mentioning it in a September 2012 interview in Rolling Stone. Dylan had toured England the year before playing an acoustic program and was greeted with standing ovations, but when he returned in ’66 backed by Robbie Robertson & Co. the response was far more mixed. The concert ticket here measures 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ and is in very good condition, with long flattened horizontal and vertical folds. The deluxe 16 page program, in near excellent condition (with some rubbing/foxing to the front cover) features photos, text, a listing of the tour dates, ads from Dylan’s publisher and record company, and a page for the concert-goer to write the song titles. The original owner has written in the titles of three of the acoustic songs they recognized, and a few horizontal lines for those they did not. There are no names for the electric songs–perhaps this was owned by one of the fans that walked out in protest ? We can only speculate. Truly historic.
