Bob Marley & The Wailers – Extremely Rare 1978 Concert Poster
An extremely rare Bob Marley and the Wailers concert poster, for their show at Cleveland’s Public Hall on May 19, 1978.
The poster’s designer, Jay Rabinowitz, explains in his accompanying letter that his Washington DC area company Mojo Graphics was hired by the show’s promoter to:
…create a poster design for an Ohio concert date of Bob Marley and the Wailers 1978 Kaya Concert tour. I designed this poster, incorporating the Rastafarian tradition of red (blood shed/sacrifice), yellow/gold (wealth/sunshine), and green (fertile land of Ethiopia/Africa) in horizontal stripes, my hand drawn silhouette of Bob Marley, eyes shut with raised arm and guitar, and dreadlocks of green Ganga, and a graphic emblem of a Ganga leaf above a black and red vortex. The design is intended to evoke an image of resistance, remembrance and power.
Rabinowitz and his Mojo Graphics partner have signed the poster near the bottom.
In excellent condition, with creases to the top corners, the right of the top head, and below the name ‘Marley.’ There are four pinholes along the top edge and five along the bottom edge, and very minor paper damage barely affecting the letters “P” and “c” in the bottom left corner. Because the artwork is so vibrant, these are all minor distractions. 16 1/2” x 21 7/8″
