Brian Jones – Rolling Stones – Original Polaroid Photograph & Vintage Stones Photo
An original, unique 1968 Polaroid photograph of Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones with girlfriend Linda Keith, taken in the English countryside, most probably by Brian’s driver Tom Keylock,, along with a circa 1966 photo of the Stones on stage, with Brian in the center, playing harmonica. These photographs came from the personal collection of Linda Keith, who sold them at auction, and signed the reverse of the Polaroid for us. Keith herself holds a special place in the history of rock, as it was she (while dating Keith Richards) who in 1966 discovered the unknown Jimi Hendrix playing at a club in New York. She felt Hendrix was extraordinarily talented, and and introduced him to Seymour Stein of Sire Records and Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham in an effort to get him a record deal–but neither shared her vision. Her third try, ex-Animals bass player Chas Chandler got it big time, and signed Hendrix–and the rest is history. This 3 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ Polaroid is a unique, original print (Polaroids had no negative, so no other copy exists) showing Brian and Keith in a full, furry psychedelic/hippy mode. There is some spotting as is typical with vintage Polaroids, but we find that just adds to the patina. The Stones photo measures 7 1/2″ x 9 1/2″, and Keith told us she picked this up at Mick & Keith’s house in the 60’s. There is some creasing to the surface, and a 1/3″ tear at the top edge. Personal snapshots of legends like Brian Jones are rarely if ever found, and we think this one gives a glimpse into two very important players in the 60’s scene.
