Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band – Full Band Signed 1969 Bizarre Records Contract (Trout Mask Replica)

A historic, fully signed 1969 recording contract between Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band and Bizarre Records, Frank Zappa and his manager Herb Cohen’s record label.  This contract begat an incredible string of Beefheart albums, beginning with his masterpiece, Trout Mask Replica.

The nine page agreement is hand signed by Beefheart, using his legal name, Don Van Vliet, and Magic Band members Mark Boston (Rockette Morton), Jeff Cotton (Antannae Jimmy Semens), Bill Harkleroad (Zoot Horn Rollo) and John French (Drumbo.). Herb Cohen signs on behalf of Bizarre Records.

The contract, dated April 1, 1969 binds Beefheart and his band to Bizarre for one year, followed by four one-year options at the label’s election.

8 1/2″ x 14″; with file holes punched at top; the signature page has a single typewritten alteration over wite-out, a small clear tape repair, and some fraying to the top file holes.
