Charlie Parker – 1954 Boxing-Style Concert Handbill / Open Door, New York
An extraordinarily rare boxing-style handbill advertising a performance by BeBop innovator and saxophone legend Charlie Parker, with his All Stars, on May 9, 1954 at the Open Door in New York City.
This classic boxing-style handbill advertises a show just one year before his tragic death at age 34. Parker’s Open Door shows were promoted by Robert Reisner, later to write one of the definitive biographies of Parker, Bird: The Legend of Charlie Parker.
Charlie Parker concert handbills are exceedingly rare, and this one is a beauty, in virtually mint condition. 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.
