Charlie Parker – 1955 Boxing-Style Concert Handbill; Open Door, New York (One of his final performances)

An extraordinarily rare boxing-style handbill advertising a performance by Be-Bop innovator and saxophone legend Charlie Parker, with his All Stars, on January 2, 1955  at the Open Door in New York City.

This classic boxing-style handbill promotes one of the last shows “Bird” played, just  two months before his tragic death at age 34.  Parker’s Open Door shows were promoted by Robert Reisner, later to write one of the definitive biographies of Parker, Bird: The Legend of Charlie Parker.

Charlie Parker concert handbills are exceedingly rare, and this one is a beauty, in mint condition.  The year, “1955” is written neatly in pen in the bottom right corner.  5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.
