Charlie Parker, Chet Baker, Dave Brubeck – 1953 Concert Tour Program

A very rare 12 page program for the "Gene Norman presents Just Jazz" tour of 1953 (our best guess of the year) featuring the Charlie Parker Quintet, Chet Baker, the Dave Brubeck Quartet and Shelly Manne. This program has great photos and biographies of each artist, large ads from Pacific Jazz and Contemporary Records. The program is in excellent condition with some toning throughout, and a long ago flattened vertical crease down the middle. This program was originally owned by Ralph J. Gleason (1917-1975;) one of the most influential jazz music critics of all time. A central figure in the San Francisco music scene, he helped organize the Monterey Jazz Festival and co-founded Rolling Stone magazine. Gleason was a longtime contributor and editor to Downbeat and Metronome magazines, and wrote liner notes for many Jazz icons including Miles Davis and Duke Ellington. We purchased this and the rest of Gleason's collection directly from his family. A rare and very historic program.
