Charlie Parker – Coleman Hawkins – Etc. – 1948 JATP Concert Program

A very rare 16 page program for the 1948 (7th Annual) Jazz at the Philharmonic Tour headlined by Charlie Parker, and featuring Coleman Hawkins, Flip Phillips, Howard McGhee, Sonny Criss, Tommy Turk, Al Haig, Tommy Potter and J.C. Heard. This program has great photos and biographies of each artist, critic's quotes, and a large ad from Mercury/JATP Records. The program is in near excellent condition, with some very light rubbing on the front cover. This program was originally owned by Ralph J. Gleason (1917-1975;) one of the most influential jazz music critics of all time. A central figure in the San Francisco music scene, he helped organize the Monterey Jazz Festival and co-founded Rolling Stone magazine. Gleason was a longtime contributor and editor to Downbeat and Metronome magazines, and wrote liner notes for many Jazz icons including Miles Davis and Duke Ellington. We purchased this and the rest of Gleason's collection directly from his family. A rare and very historic program.
