A beautiful first printing (with 72 union bug) of BG-16, the great Wes Wilson's poster for the Mindbenders and the Chocolate Watchband at the Fillmore Auditorium in July, 1966. This poster is in EX+ condition, with a long flattened horizontal fold across the middle (barely noticeable) and a small crease in the bottom right corner. This poster was from the collection of the legendary music critic Ralph J. Gleason (see below) who likely folded it in half when taking it home from the show to fit in his famous trench coat, and then stored it flat from when he got it home, never exposed to light or hung–it's bright and bold as the day it was printed.(br)This poster comes the collection of the late Ralph J. Gleason (1917-1975;) one of the most influential jazz and pop music critics of all time. He was a central figure in the San Francisco rock scene, helped organize the Monterey Pop Festival, and co-founded Rolling Stone magazine. Bill Graham himself credited Gleason with suggesting the Fillmore Auditorium to him as a site for concerts, while the Family Dog met with Gleason at his home to discuss their idea to stage dance concerts, prior to their first show at the Longshoreman's Hall. This is a rare opportunity to obtain a poster from the personal collection of one of the key figures of the San Francisco Scene.
