David Bowie – 1966 Lower Third Press Kit
An impossibly rare 1966 press kit for David Bowie & The Lower Third announcing his name change from Davie Jones to David Bowie, and the release of his first single under that name. This four page brouchure explains the name change ("There are too many Davie Jones's…David Jones is my real name and when I first turned professional two years ago and my pirate-like character was just right at that time, and the name fitted in with the image I wanted to give myself.") There is a fantastic photo of Bowie, and photos & bios of his group, The Lower Third (including George (T-Cup) Taylor !) This is the earliest known promotional item for Bowie/Jones, and this is the only known example. Measures 8" x 10" and in near excellent condition.
