David Bowie – 3 Unique Polaroid Photographs, From ‘Tonight’ Album Cover Sessions / Exhibited in ‘David Bowie Is’ Museum Exhibition
Three original Polaroid photographs of David Bowie, taken during the creation of his Tonight album cover, and exhibited in the David Bowie Is museum exhibition
Grammy Award winning art director Mick Haggerty created the covers for three of David Bowie’s albums, Let’s Dance (1983), Tonight (1984) and Never Let Me Down (1987), all in close collaboration with Bowie.
For Tonight, Haggerty began by photographing Bowie in his suite at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City, taking 29 Polaroid photographs. Using one of these as a reference, he drew the portrait of Bowie used on the Tonight album cover.
Offered here are three of Haggerty’s unused Polaroid photographs of Bowie. These were exhibited as part of the David Bowie is touring museum exhibition, organized by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, as well as the ‘augmented reality’ virtual version of the exhibition.
We acquired these directly from Mick Haggerty, who has signed each on the back. They are reproduced in the book of Haggerty’s collected work MXWX.
With Mick Haggerty’s signed letter of authenticity, and Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
