David Bowie – 4 Bowie & Spiders From Mars Autographed Petty Cash Receipts, Signed in ’72 & ’73
An impossibly rare set of David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars autographs, on four petty cash receipts (for cash advances paid to them by management), one each signed by David Bowie and each members of The Spiders From Mars in 1972 or 1973–their absolute peak, along with a 1972 RCA Records press photograph of the band, suitable for framing with the receipts.
Bowie’s ‘Petty Cash Voucher’ is dated 30th July 1973, while he was recording his album Pin Ups at the Chateau d’Herouville, in Pontoise France. The details section reads “Money to David for personal Expenses” and the amount is 1000 French Francs, later amended to 1190 Francs. Bowie signs “Bowie” and writes his initials “DB” where the additional 190 Francs was added. (5 1/8″ x 4 1/8″ with a torn upper left corner)
All of the Spider’s receipts were all signed in November, 1972, during Bowie’s first US Tour. Mick Ronson’s receipt is dated November 7, 1972 for an advance of $20 while in Phoenix, Mick “Woody” Woodmansey’s is also dated the 7th, for an advance of $10 while in Phoenix, and Trevor Boulder’s is dated November 1, for an advance of $10 while the band was in Seattle for a show. Each band member signs his first initial and last name, as was the custom for UK residents signing documents. These are all 5 1/2″ x 3″ in excellent condition.
Authentic autographs of Bowie and the Spiders are extremely rare. We acquired these from someone formerly involved with MainMan, Bowie’s management company, and they come with Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity. With an RCA Records 8″ x 10″ black and white promotional photograph of Bowie and the Spiders, perfect for framing with the signed receipts.
