David Bowie – Letter & Ziggy-Era Royalty Agreement, Signed Using Legal Name D.R. Jones

A David Bowie-signed letter to his lawyer, Stan Diamond, regarding an agreement with production company Trident Records, and a file copy of a related royalty agreement.  Bowie signs the letter, dated April 10, 1980 using his legal name, D.R. Jones (Bowie was born David Robert Jones on January 8, 1947).

The typed and hand-signed letter is accompanied by an unsigned vintage file-copy of a two page royalty agreement dated October 23, 1980, instructing Bowie’s then-label, RCA Records to pay Trident Records a 1% royalty on the albums Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Pin Ups, as well as the single tracks “John, I’m Only Dancing,”, “Round and Round,” “Port of Amsterdam,” “Holy Holy,” and “Velvet Goldmine.”

Bowie recorded all of Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust and parts of Aladdin Sane in Trident’s London studios, and Trident-managed producer Ken Scott co-produced these four albums and the single tracks.  This is the only Bowie item we’ve had where he signs using his legal name, and it relates to four of his best-regarded albums.

Letter: 8 1/4″ x 11 5/8″, in overall excellent condition with a crease (probably for mailing) across the top 1/2″.  File copy 8 1/2″ x 11″ in excellent condition.
