Frank Zappa – 8 original Cal Schenkel drawings from Uncle Meat
8 original drawings of Frank Zappa by his longtime art director, Cal Schenkel, unused but intended for the Uncle Meat album cover. Obtained from a former Warner Bros. art director, who has written a signed letter of provenance that reads: "In 1976 when I was struggling to get established as a designer in Los Angeles, Warner Bros….hired me to go through the job tickets in the Warner Basement. Job tickets were, as you know, the large envelopes where everything pertaining to an album's artwork were filed. My instructions were to preserve anything directly related to each record's artwork, and discard anything extranious. In one of the Zappa tickets (to the best of my memory, it was Uncle Meat) I found a collection of Cal Schenkel sketches that never found their way to the package." Any Zappa fan knows Cal Schenkel's work as Zappa's visual collaborator on most of his classic album covers. His work rarely is seen on the market, and these sketches are a wonderful example. Six of these measure 14" x 8.5," while two are 8.5" x 11." Beautiful, original, and as everything we sell, guaranteed original for life (in writing !)
