FRANK ZAPPA / Mothers of Invention – Signed Cal Schenkel ‘Ralph’s Dream’ Limited Edition Lithograph

An original Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa silkscreen lithograph by Cal Schenkel, creator of many Mothers of Invention and  Captain Beefheart album covers, titled Ralph’s Dream.  The top half is based on the inside gatefold artwork of Zappa’s album Lumpy Gravy  (thought silver and somewhat altered) while the bottom half shows a dog, which we’re assuming to be Ralph, who must be ‘dreaming’ about Lumpy Gravy.

This beautiful work is pencil signed by Cal Schenkel, dated 10-78, and numbered 11/300. We are virtually certain that the edition was never issued or completed. Below the title Schenkel has written “2 in Series”.  This is one of a number of different silkscreens created in 1978 and 1979 by the great Schenkel, all related to the Mothers or Captain Beefheart.  These were all sent to a collector in 1979.

26” x 20” and is in virtually mint condition, with no wear and almost surely never hung.  The print has a faint musty smell (which won’t be noticed when this is framed.)  Absolutely spectacular in person.
