Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention – Original 1978 Signed Cal Schenkel Silkscreen Lithograph

An original silkscreen lithograph by Cal Schenkel, creator of many Frank Zappa and Mothers of Invention album covers, titled “Only Money”.  The art comprises a portrait of Frank Zappa, upside down images of the Mothers of Invention, and elements of the artwork from the The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album (which the Mothers We’re Only In It For The Money album cover satirizes).

This is signed by Cal Schenkel, dated 10-78, and numbered Proof II, RGB (for red, green, blue) and set A/P for Artist’s Proof.  As we can find no other example of this online or in any reference, we are near certain  the edition was never issued or completed.  Below the title Schenkel has written “1 in Series”.  This is one of a number of different silkscreens created in 1979 by the great Schenkel, all related to the Mothers or Captain Beefheart, which we obtained from a collector.  He received them from someone who Schenkel gifted them to in 1979.  This measures 26” x 20” and is in virtually mint condition, with no wear and almost surely never hung.  It has a faint musty smell, but is otherwise mint and looks absolutely amazing in person.  26″ x 20″
