Frank Zappa – Signed 1970 Intercontinental Absurdities Employee Agreement, Documents (Also signed by Gail Zappa)

Two remarkable Frank Zappa related original documents; first, an original six page application to the California Commissioner of Corporations, dated October 1968, establishing Zappa’s company, Intercontinental Absurdities (Zappa is president/treasurer, his wife Gail is vice president, their secretary Pauline Butcher is secretary); and a four page employment agreement, dated August 1970, whereby Intercontinental Absurdities ‘hires’ Frank Zappa as its ’employee’, signed by Frank Zappa (Employee) and Gail Zappa (Employer).

Both contracts are filled with fascinating detail including the Zappa’s Laurel Canyon home address as the offices of Intercontinental Absurdities, corporate structure and shares of stock issued, a ‘statement of qualifications’ (Zappa’s ‘business experience: Entertainer, musician since age of 21, very successful as leader of his own musical group and has had a number of successful records’), ‘Employee grants to Employer the exclusive right to license the use of his name, voice, likeness, signature, endorsement and biographic material…’, and ‘Compensation to the Employee shall be…$600 for each and every public stage performance in which the Employee appears but not less than $12,0k00. for each year of the agreement’.

Frank and Gail Zappa have signed the final page of the employment agreement in black ballpoint pen.  A museum quality collectible, with Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
