Grace Slick – Signed Pre-Jefferson Airplane ‘Great Society’ Songwriter Contract
A Grace Slick signed 1966 songwriting contract for her song “Often As I May.” Grace wrote this for her pre-Jefferson Airplane band The Great Society and it appears on numerous albums by the band including the 1968 LP “Conspicuous Only In Its Absence.” The website Bay Area Bands notes “Although The Great Society lasted for one year only, they were one of San Francisco’s most important bands.”
This contract between Grace and music publisher Stumps Music Publishing covers the various amount Grace will be paid for recordings made of the song and sheet music produced. She has signed it on the back and written her address. The contract is dated May 1, 1966; by October 16 of that year Grace had left The Great Society for the Jefferson Airplane.
A rare San Francisco / Grace Slick artifact with Recordmecca’s lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
