Original 1989 Grammy Award
An extremely rare original wood-base Grammy Award, from 1989. Original Grammy Awards are very rarely offered for sale, as Grammy winners almost never sell them. The owner of this one removed the engraved plate before selling it, so we don’t know which category it was awarded for. The code number on the bottom identifies it as having been awarded during the 31st Annual Grammy Awards–which took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on February 22, 1989. That year’s Record of the Year award went to Bobby McFerren’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and the Album of the Year was George Michael’s Faith, while the Best New Artist award went to Tracy Chapman. During the early 1990’s the design of the Grammy Award was changed, with a metal base replacing the walnut one found here. This Grammy is in excellent condition overall; the base has been waxed recently, but all the parts are original (even the felt pads on the bottom.) Guaranteed authentic without time limit. 7 1/4″ high, the base 4 3/4″ square.
