Grateful Dead – Big Brother – Trips Festival Handbill
An extremely rare San Francisco/Grateful Dead/LSD/Big Brother & The Holding Company collectible from the Psychedelic era–an original handbill advertising the legendary January, 1966 Trips Festival at the Longshoreman's Hall in San Francisco. This 3 night event was the first true psychedelic event in the bay area, and has been written about extensively–a good site to check out for information on it is at ( http://www.digthatcrazyfarout.com/trips/trips_festival_history.html ). The three nights featured different events, each intended to expand the consciousness of attendees and in some way simulate the psychedelic experience. The first night featured "America Needs Indians" and the "Open Theatre." The Second night had Ken Kesey leading The Acid Test "The Merry Pranksters & Their Psychedelic Symphony, Allen Ginsberg, an unbilled Big Brother & The Holding Company, and The Grateful Dead. The third night included films by artist and filmmaker Bruce Conner, Big Brother and the Grateful Dead again, The Loading Zone, and others. The handbill measures 6.5" x 9.5" and is in excellent+ condition; it has has some expert restoration which is invisible to the eye (it was de-acidified and some small edge tears and pinholes were repaired. The mark at the top of the back looks darker on the scan than in person.) This was the first handbill (or poster) designed by Wes Wilson, and was printed by his own Contact Printing Co. With Recordmecca's written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
