Grateful Dead – Jerry Garcia’s Personal “Aoxomoxoa Remix” LP Test Pressing, With His Handwritten Annotations, and Lifetime Guarantee

Jerry Garcia’s personal test pressing of the 1972 remix of the Grateful Dead’s classic album Aoxomoxoa, with his  handwritten notations.

The original Aoxomoxoa was released by Warner Bros. Records in 1969, but in 1971 Garcia and Phil Lesh remixed the album, with their new mix replacing the original.  This is one of two test pressings sent to Jerry Garcia to approve, before the new mix was officially released.  Garcia has written “Aoxomoxoa-Remix” in his distinctive writing on the cover.  On the back, “To Jerry Garcia” is written in an unknown hand, as well as the catalog number BS 2582, which was the number for Garcia’s 1972 debut solo album, Garcia (Jerry must have accidentally switched the generic white sleeves.)  Also included is an unused “Keep on Truckin'” sticker belonging to Garcia, and found inside the album cover.

We purchased both of Garcia’s Aoxomoxoa test pressings in a single lot at a Bonham’s auction of Jerry Garcia’s personal property, consigned by his widow, Deborah Koons Garcia.  The album is in Mint condition, and plays beautifully.

An incredible Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia rarity, with impeccable provenance.  With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity noting this test pressing was owned by Jerry Garcia, and copies of the relevant catalog pages.
