Grateful Dead – Jerry Garcia’s Personal Backstage Pass For 15th Anniversary Warfield Concerts & Grateful Dead Business Card

Jerry Garcia’s personal laminate backstage pass for the Grateful Dead’s 15th Anniversary Shows at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre, given by Garcia to the band’s publicist.

To mark the Dead’s 15th anniversary as a band, the group played a fifteen night stint at the Warfield.  As explained in the accompanying letter of authenticity:

During 1979 and 1980, I worked for Ren Grevatt Associates, a NYC-based boutique music-industry PR firm that had been subcontracted by Arista Records to promote the recently-signed Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band…In September and October of 1980, the Grateful Dead played a 15-show run at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre. I visited San Francisco for a few days at some point during the run, which was the first time I would see the band on their home turf.  While greeting the band backstage, where things seemed decidedly looser than on the East Coast, I mentioned that I didn’t have a pass, since in San Francisco, the PR and guest list was not handled by Ren Grevatt, the publicist I worked for in NYC.  Jerry was running scales on his guitar, and casually unclipped his laminated pass from his jeans and handed it to me, saying “here ya go kiddo” and memorably adding “I’m pretty sure they’ll let me in” adding that I should use it to get into all the shows of the run.  As I recall I attended one additional Warfield show before returning to NY,  keeping Jerry’s badge as a souvenir.

Also included is a laminated Skeleton and Roses motif Grateful Dead business card, also from the former publicist’s collection.   Pass in excellent condition, 3 3/8″ x 2 1/8″ (without clip).  Business card in very good condition, with some age toning and one chipped corner, 3 1/2″ x 2 1/8″.

With a copy of the original owner’s letter of authenticity, and Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
