Grateful Dead / Ken Kesey – Rare 1966 Promotional Poster for ‘The Acid Test’ Private Press LP
A very rare promotional poster advertising the highly collectible 1966 album The Acid Test, featuring Ken Kesey and the Grateful Dead.
The first recording session at the Bay Area studio Sound City was an in-studio Acid Test featuring Ken Kesey, the Grateful Dead, and members of the Merry Pranksters. Sound City issued the results as an album on their small independent label, which sold exceedingly poorly. Copies of The Acid Test album have sold for up to $2500.
This is a promotional poster for the album, utilizing the cover artwork, which features a small photo of Jerry Garcia, Ken Kesey, and Pigpen (to the right of the “D”) and a close up of Kesey (at the bottom of the tongs.) We know of only two other examples that have surfaced in the 56 years since this album was issued.
13 7/8″ x 14″. In near mint condition (the poster has had minor restoration to fix small edge tears and corner pinholes, and to de-acidify the paper. None of this is visible, but we always disclose any restoration.) A great image from a golden era.
