Grateful Dead – Original Pressing of 1966 Debut 45 “Don’t Ease Me In/Stealin'” on Scorpio Records

A copy of The Grateful Dead’s ultra-rare debut single, “Don’t Ease Me In/Stealin'” on the short lived Scorpio label.

Though excellent bootlegs exist of this record, this is a genuine 1966 first pressing. Visually it grades  VG+, though it plays at least EX with no clicks or pops; there are very light marks, but nothing remotely feelable.  Both song titles have been circled in black marker.

This has all the trademarks of the original pressing–matte red labels (those on the bootleg are glossy) and etched into the matrix of both sides, “Commercial Recorders Inc.” in handwriting.  The song titles and catalog numbers are etched into the matrix on the respective sides in block letters.

Only 500 copies of this single were pressed; soon afterward, the label, Scorpio (an independent, not to be confused with the Fantasy Records subsidiary) received a cease and desist letter from the Dead’s management, and a vast majority of the singles were destroyed.  Mint copies of this rarity have sold for as much as $4500.

An extremely rare, historic–and excellent–single.  With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
