Guns N’ Roses – 1990 Contract Signed By All Original Band Members
A very rare contract signed by all five original members of Guns N’ Roses, pertaining to an incident at the October 13, 1989 Rip magazine party held at the Parkview Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. GNR performed during the party, only 5 days before their historic four L.A. Coliseum dates opening for the Rolling Stones.
The band invited a Los Angeles photographer to shoot them during this event, something that evidently hadn’t been communicated to their bodyguards. One bodyguard, in an effort to prevent the photographer from taking pictures, physically injured the photographer. This contract stipulates that $1500. be paid to the photographer, and he agrees not to sue the band or their “purported employee” as the contract identifies him. The photographer was friendly with the band and just wanted to be reimbursed for his medical bills.
The contract is signed on the fourth page by the photographer and the original lineup of Guns N’ Roses—Steven Adler, W. Axl Rose, Michael “Duff” McKagan, Slash and Izzy Stradlin. The signatures are superb, clear and unfaded. The agreement is dated 1/19/90—shortly before Adler left the band.
This incident took place at a tumultous time for the band, and only five days before their first Stones date, when Axl threatened to quit if certain members of the band didn’t stop “dancing with Mr. Brownstone” (ie, taking heroin.) We acquired this directly from the photographer, and have blurred out his name and covered his signature on the scans here, for the sake of his privacy (of course his name and signature are present on the contract.) With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
