Guns N’ Roses – Original 1986 Demo Tape From Earliest Sessions
An incredibly rare Guns N’ Roses demo tape from their earliest recording sessions, given to their longtime publicist, Bryn Bridenthal in mid-1986. This tape includes 24 songs recorded during their first demo sessions in early 1986, and their June 1986 sessions at Sound City Studios (produced by Nazareth’s Manny Charlton) and Pasha Studios (produced by Spencer Proffer.) Bridenthal’s letter of authenticity explains “I was at the annual Rock n’ Bowl event at a bowling alley in LA when my buddy Tom Zutaut looked me up and said I had to go with him to see a band he was signing. So we left for a late show at the Whiskey. The band was visceral. I was mightily impressed, and not just by the singer’s leather chaps and g-string. That night, after the show, I met Guns N’ Roses. It was love at first song for me and the attitude of the group intensified that commitment. These were real, unpredictable rock gods in the making. I joined the their team. No pay. I just wanted on board. Which was important later on when Capitol Records wanted to sue me for working a non-Capitol band “on their time” whilst I was briefly employed there. Fortunately no pay put it in the realm of a hobby. To me, it was more like a religion. After the show at the Whiskey, Tom gave me this demo cassette and the band became the center of my universe for many years to come. Bryn Bridenthal, GNR publicist and head of publicity for Geffen Records.” Bridenthal personally represented the band from those earliest days through the mid 1990’s. We acquired this original demo cassette directly from her, and it comes with her signed letter of authenticity (we have blurred out her address and phone number on the scan here, for her privacy) and a digital transfer of the demo tape. All songs are unreleased, though some have been bootlegged; the songs that later appeared on the “Live Like A Suicide” album are alternate or unsweetened versions.
