Howlin’ Wolf – ‘I Ain’t Superstitious’ 10″ Acetate, from London Sessions with Ringo, Eric Clapton, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman, Steve Winwood

A possibly unique 10″ acetate of Howlin’ Wolf’s classic ‘I Ain’t Superstitious,’ recorded during the sessions for the 1971 album The London Howlin’ Wolf Sessions, and from the collection of that album’s producer.

Released on Chess Records in the United States and on Rolling Stones Records in Britain, The London Howlin’ Wolf Sessions was, as Wikipedia noted, ‘one of the first super session blues albums, setting a blues master among famous musicians from the second generation of rock and roll, in this case Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman’ as well as Ringo Starr, Klaus Voorman and Wolf’s longtime guitarist Hubert Sumlin.

The accompanying letter of authenticity notes this disc was ‘from the estate of record producer Norman Dayron, who produced many blues records.  Mr. Dayron was a customer at my record store, Red Devil Records in San Rafael, CA.  After his passing I purchased his record collection, which included this record.’

The disc has ‘Superstition’ on both sides, but one side has has been scored with a large ‘X’ in grease pencil, marking it as an unacceptable cut. Both sides have a 3:01 edit, eliminating the ad libs on the album’s 3:31 version.  The unscored side is in EX condition.

Only the second Howlin’ Wolf acetate we’ve seen.  With our written lifetime guarantee of authenticity, as well as that of the owner of Red Devil Records.
