Howlin’ Wolf – Wolf’s Railroad Cap Hat, Exhibited at Memphis Music Hall of Fame Museum
A blue and white denim ‘railroad cap’ owned by blues giant Howlin’ Wolf, and exhibited at the Memphis Music Hall of Fame Museum.
We acquired this, along with Wolf’s matching overalls, his Kay electric guitar and a number of other unique blues collectibles from the museum when it closed in 2001. We eventually donated his guitar to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and sold the overalls, but kept the hat for our collection.
The overalls and hat were made and sold together by Round House, a company founded in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1903 that is still making similar overalls and hats. The faxed notarized letter of authenticity from museum director John Montague notes ‘This pair of “Round House” overalls were owned by Howlin’ Wolf, who wore them while rehearsing at home. I personally acquired them for the Museum from his widow, Lillian Burnett. They were exhibited next to Howlin’ Wolf’s guitar in the Museum’s guitar display.’
Our written lifetime guarantee of authenticity will note that this hat was also part of the Museum’s display, and purchased with Wolf’s matching overalls from Lillian Burnett.
In excellent condition, lightly worn. Adjustable.
