James Brown – Champion Jack Dupree – The Moonglows – 1959 Harlem Concert Handbill
An extremely rare handbill for a January, 1959 “Breakfast Dance” (9 PM to 5 AM !) in Harlem featuring James Brown and the Flames, Champion Jack Dupree, Harvey and the Moonglows (featuring Motown pioneer Harvey Fuqua,) Baby Washington, and Nappy Brown. The month after this performance Brown’s “Try Me” hit #1 in the R&B charts; it went on to become the biggest selling R&B single of that year (and the first of his 17 number one singles over the next few decades.) Featuring a great photo of Brown in action, this measures 7″ x 10″ and is in mint condition. Truly historic.
