Janis Joplin / Big Brother – Four 1966 Tax Documents & Bank Document / From Manager’s Collection

Four 1966 State of California Franchise Tax Board ‘Application for Extension’ documents, for Big Brother & The Holding Company members Janis Joplin, David Getz, Peter (and Cindy) Albin and James (and Nancy) Gurley , with a Wells Fargo Bank Safe Deposit Box rental statement for Big Brother.  These come from the collection of Big Brother’s early manager, Julius Karpen (1935-2021).

The four members of Big Brother filed for an extension, because ‘Income from the partnership, Big Brother & The Holding Company, is not available.’ (We don’t know why there is no form for the fifth band member, Sam Andrew.)

These date from the very early days of Big Brother (On the scans here, we have photoshopped out the social security numbers of surviving Big Brother members Peter Albin and David Getz.)
