Jeff Beck – Handwritten And Signed 1967 Letter

An autographed letter from Jeff Beck to his Los Angeles friend Darryl Stolper, dated July 26, 1967; referencing a “misunderstanding” he’d had with girlfriend Mary Hughes. Stolper befriended Beck when the latter was in L.A. during a 1966 Yardbirds tour, and Stolper introduced Beck to Hughes (who became Beck’s girlfriend, and who Beck sang about in the Yardbirds song “Psycho Dasies.”) Beck and Stolper were close friends, with Beck often visiting Stolper in Pacific Palisades, CA; and the two corresponded regularly.  Beck writes to Stolper “I would say I shall never be quite the same if this misunderstand between Mary and I turns for the worst.  Since I met you and Mary my life has been very happy, in fact more so than either of you could know.  I expect you already noticed I’m a very nervous and also sentimental person, a quality which is in some ways beautiful and in others a shere (sic) menace.  I suppose what is happening to me is just a very hard lesson, but I’m afraid I will never ever forget it…I would do anything in my power for both of you and I think you understand my problem.”  Beck asks Stolper to intercede with Hughes on his behalf, ending “…my respect for both of you will never change.  Please write soon, Jeff” (signing with his Arrow logo through the two f’s.)  The letter dates from the Jeff Beck Group era; a few months earlier he’d released “High Ho Silver Lining/Beck’s Bolero” and was the group was touring in England the week this was written.  In excellent condition,  pencil on thin paper, measuring 5 3/4″ x 7 3/4″. The original envelope is included, as well as a letter from Hughes to Stolper, dated January 16, 1967, with details of her life in London with Beck.  Also included are reproductions of photographs of Stolper with Beck and Hughes with Beck, and a copy of Stolper’s letter of authenticity, detailing his relationship with Beck.  A truly historic Jeff Beck collectible.  With Recordmecca’s lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
