Jimi Hendrix – Original Ira Cohen Color Photograph “In The Mylar Chamber”

A superb original color glossy 20″ x 16″photograph of Jimi Hendrix ‘in the mylar chamber’ by the late artist/photographer/publisher/poet/filmmaker Ira Cohen.

This is an original print, authenticated on the inside of the mat by Cohen’s archivist, Johan Kugelberg, who has written “This print comes from the Ira Cohen archive: A Cibachrome [printed] by Ira Landgarten of Ira Cohen’s mylar chamber shot, considered his last portrait sat for. Venice, 2/17. Johan Kugelberg (Ira Cohen Archivist).” Matted to an overall size of 24 x 20. In fine condition.

Cohen photographed a number of musicians, poets and artists in a mylar room he built in his New York loft. He photographed Hendrix in 1969, and the guitarist was quoted as telling Cohen ‘looking at your pictures is like looking through butterfly wings.’ Cohen’s mylar photographs appear on a number of album covers, including John McLaughlin’s Devotion and Spirit’s Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. [Note: Cohen made limited edition prints of one of his Hendrix portraits, but this is an original photographic print.]
