Jimi Hendrix & Otis Redding – Monterey Pop Album Cover Proof Signed by Jim Marshall

An original album cover proof for the 1970 Reprise album by Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding “Historic Performances Recorded at the Monterey Pop Festival” hand signed by legendary photographer Jim Marshall, who took the photographs on the cover. This is the earliest version of the album cover, which was quickly replaced by a collage of photographs (also by Marshall) against a grey background. Album cover proofs are made for the artist/management/record label/ and photographer/designer to approve, before album covers are mass produced. Generally fewer than 20 would have been made, and most would have been discarded after being approved. This one measures 13 1/2″ x 14 1/2″ and in in near mint condition, with a tiny chip to the bottom right corner. The late Jim Marshall was one of the most highly acclaimed music photographers ever; he was the chief photographer at Woodstock, the only photographer allowed backstage at the Beatles last concert, and shot legendary photographs of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones Johnny Cash, and many other music legends. His photographs adorn more than 500 album covers including the Allman Brothers “At The Fillmore East” and the Jefferson Airplane’s Volunteers, and numerous concert posters. As with everything we offer, guaranteed authentic without time limit.
