John Coltrane – 1962 Autographed Red Garland Quintet “Soul Junction” Album

A first pressing copy of The Red Garland Quintet featuring John Coltrane’s Prestige album Soul Junction, signed on the back cover by John Coltrane. This was signed for a fan in Detroit, Michigan at the Minor Key Club, on August 4, 1962, during The John Coltrane Quartet’s week long engagement there (July 31-August 6.)

The original owner of this album waited in line at the club for 45 minutes to get Coltrane’s autograph on this and a few other albums. He recently sold these to a Los Angeles record store, from which we obtained them.

Coltrane has written “8-4-62 Best Wishes John Coltrane”. The signature is in fountain pen and very clear. This has been authenticated by music autograph expert Roger Epperson, who’s letter of authenticity is included.

The disc is in VG++ to VG+ condition, and the cover VG++, with a 1” seam split to the right bottom edge and some fraying to the bottom left edge.  This is the first pressing with the Bergenfield, NJ address and deep groove labels, and is a $275. rare record even unsigned.

Authentic John Coltrane autographs are extremely rare and sought after, especially on album covers; most of those we’ve seen on the internet are forgeries. We recently sold a Coltrane signed program on Ebay for $4500.  With music autograph expert authenticator Roger Epperson’s letter of Authenticity and Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
