John Coltrane – Calif. State Resolution Recognizing Coltrane

An official resolution issued by the California State Assembly on July 28, 1967 memorializing jazz giant John Coltrane, eleven days after his death, along with a cover letter from the assistant to the California Assembly Majority Leader, and an Impulse Records press release announcing Coltrane's passing. The proclamation was sent to legendary Jazz critic and Coltrane friend Ralph J. Gleason, perhaps to be forwarded to Coltrane's widow Alice (the last line mentions that a copy will be sent to her.) It is printed on heavy stock and embossed with the Seal of the State of California, and is likely unique. It measures 12 3/4" x 20" and is in overall very good condition, with some light handling and foxing. A rare artifact recognizing a true genius of jazz.
