Magazine photographs of John Coltrane and Elvin Jones, each signed by the subject in blue ballpoint pen.  These were signed for a fan backstage after the John Coltrane Quartet concert on November 23, 1962 at the Robert-Schuhmann Saal in Dusseldorf, Germany.  We acquired these very rare autographs directly from the fan who got them more than 50 years ago.  Both have been authenticated by music autograph expert Roger Epperson, who’s letter of authenticity is included.

The photographs were clipped from a German magazine, and were formerly mounted together on cardboard. Our expert paper conservator has removed and flattened them and they look great, with some subtle toning to the newsprint, and just a bit of creasing on the Jones photograph (which has a bit of barely noticeable glue from the reverse visible along the right edge).  The Coltrane photograph measures 5 3/8″ x 8 3/8″ and the Jones photograph 5 7/8″ x 8 3/8″.
