John Coltrane – Two ‘Live in Berlin’ 1963 Master Tapes

Two 10 1/2″ reel-to-reel master tapes of The John Coltrane Quartet performing live in Berlin, Germany on November 2, 1963.

These tapes, from the collection of a longtime Pablo Records executive, are in boxes from legendary Hollywood recording studio TTG, and dated October 20, 1975 (likely the date they were transferred or equalized.)

Reel 1 contains Lonnie’s Lament (10:02) and Naima (7:56), while the reel marked 1A contains Chasin’ The Trane (5:41) and My Favorite Things (20:52).  These recording were eventually released as part of the 7-CD set Live Trane: The European Tours.  The versions on these tapes sound incredible, with much more presence and a different EQ from the versions available on Spotify.

With a professional digital transfer of both reels.
