John Lee Hooker – 1960 “I’m John Lee Hooker” LP Owned By Bill Wyman (Rolling Stones) / (Artist Owned)

A 1960 promotional copy of I’m John Lee Hooker from the legendary collection of Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, with his handwritten notations on the back cover.  This classic blues album, Hooker’s debut, features  his classics “Dimples,” “Boogie Chillun,” “I’m in the Mood” and “Crawlin’ King Snake.”  Hooker was one of the Rolling Stones greatest early influences.

Bill Wyman is legendary as a musician, a blues historian, an author and for his world-class collection of Rolling Stones memorabilia.  This album was sold by him at the Bill Wyman and his Rolling Stones Archive sale at Julien’s Auctions (if you haven’t already seen the Wyman documentary The Quiet One, we enthusiastically recommend it.)

As the accompanying copy of the Juliens descriptive card notes, “The Rolling Stones always list John Lee Hooker among the artists who had the greatest influence on their music at the beginning of their career.  The Stones did live cover versions of “Crawling King Snake” and “Dimples” during some of their earliest performances and they had the honor of performing “Boogie Chillen” live on stage with Hooker during their 1989 Steel Wheels tour stop in Atlantic City.”

Both disc and cover are in VG+ condition.  The back cover has Wyman’s handwritten notations including the recording dates for each song, as well as a promotional stamp.  The disc has scattered light marks, but plays well with some minor, occasional ticks or pops.

With a copy of the original auction house descriptive card, and Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity, signed by Recordmecca’s Jeff Gold, who has consulted for Bill Wyman.

An extraordinary opportunity to own a classic John Lee Hooker album from the collection of a Rolling Stone.
