John Peel – Handwritten Radio Program Running Order, with 3 Songs by his favorite group, The Fall
A radio show running order, handwritten by legendary English disc jockey John Peel (John Robert Parker Ravenscroft, OBE, 1939-2004.)
Widely regarded as the most important British DJ ever, Peel broadcast on the BBC from 1967 until his death in 2004, and was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic and progressive rock on British radio. He promoted artists of multiple genres, including pop, dub reggae, punk rock and post-punk, electronic music and dance music, indie rock, extreme metal and British hip hop. Fellow DJ Paul Gambaccini described Peel as ‘the most important man in music for about a dozen years.’
This eclectic set list includes 25 songs, each with their length listed, and along the right edge, the total set length. This undated broadcast included three songs by Peel’s all time favorite group, The Fall, as well as selections by Primal Scream, Screaming Trees, The Jesus Lizard, Inspiral Carpets, Mellow Man Ace, Pitbull, and many others. Peel carefully selected each record played on his show, compiling them on detailed sheets such as this one.
This list was taken from a pad of Peel’s original radio show lists, sold by his family at the Bonhams auction Live In Session: Property From The John Peel Archive. Included is a copy of the auction lot’s letter of authenticity from a member of Peel’s family, noting these note pads featured Peel’s ‘meticulous running order of songs, from all decades across many music genres; with programme dates, song titles, artists and son timings, as per John’s stopwatch, all in his hand in blue, black and sometimes red ballpoint…’
8″ x 12″. With a copy of the Peel family letter of authenticity, and Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
