Joy Division – Original “An Ideal For Living” 7″ Enigma EP, From Manager Rob Gretton’s Collection (signed by Peter Hook 4 months before release)

An original first pressing of Joy Division’s debut EP, An Ideal For Living, from the collection of Joy Division/New Order manager Rob Gretton (1953-1999).  While this EP doesn’t have the usual printed cover, its generic sleeve is signed “To Harold, with best regards, Peter Hook” and dated 15/2/1978 (February 15, 1978.)

An Ideal for Living was recorded December 14, 1977 but not released until June 3, 1978.  As this copy’s autograph is dated nearly 4 months before the EP’s release, it’s highly likely it was signed before the covers had been printed.  (Unfortunately we don’t know who the Harold it was signed for is.)  The disc is in VG++ to EX- condition and plays well.

This EP was part of Rob Gretton’s personal collection, and we obtained it directly from his partner, Lesley Gilbert.  With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity, noting the EP’s extraoradinary provenance.
