Marc Bolan / T. Rex – Handwritten Note, Original Artwork, Photos For “Electric Warrior” Album

A handwritten note from Marc Bolan to the Warner Brothers art department, concerning the album cover for T. Rex’s Electric Warrior, along with a group of original artwork and publicity material related to the album.

Bolan’s note, on the stationery of T.Rex’s Warner Bros/Reprise director of merchandising, Hal Halverstadt, reads “T. Rex cover sleeve as artwork, but gatefold with poster pic inside.  inner bag & label normal.  Marc X”.  An accompanying typed note from Halverstadt to Warner Bros. art director Ed Thrasher reads “edward, In case nobody else knows or has told you, I know what’s supposed to happen with the T.Rex package.  The attached is a note from Marc Bolan.  If you like I’ll explain.  Yrs truly, HH”

Electric Warrior was released in England by Fly Records with a regular album cover, and an enclosed poster.  Bolan is indicating that he’d prefer a fold-0pen album cover with the poster artwork used inside the gatefold, and a normal innersleeve and labels.  This is how Warner/Reprise released the album.

This lot also includes an original 8″ x 10″ negative of the poster image, with an overlay with cropping information, marked “Super Rush”, a copy of the original UK poster (22 1/4″ x 29 3/4″), a second 8″ x 10″ negative of T.Rex from the same photo session, two original 8″ x 10″ prints of photographs from the session, a sheet with two uncut photo LP labels from the UK release, a finished copy of the Electric Warrior US album, a deluxe tri-fold promo piece for Bolan and T-Rex promoting the album (with what appears to be an unpublished Bolan poem), a five page Reprise Records biography from the same era, and vintage xerox of an article about the album.

An extraordinary collection, with Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.  (Bolan’s note 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″).
